Even then, those games had factions and some sense of team allegiance. Most other MMO's that have tried to implement World PVP have basically fallen flat, in which those parts of the game are practically ignored by the majority, while the minority that do enjoy ganking/greifing whine about balance, lack of targets, etc. In fact, it just further divides the community by the haves & have nots. Having all your time/energy/effort be immediately dismissed by a single or group of stalking griefers just isn't a fun mechanic for the victim. True, they have plenty of other choices for content, but the atmosphere and unique mechanics of the DZ are enjoyable. I can't count how many times I have tried to get people to just try the DZ and they shun it like the plague. It sucks, its not fun, and therefore, ignored by the majority of the player base. The last thing a PVE player enjoys, is utilizing 1 of the 11 non-meta sets to farm the PvE mobs/events, only to have a griefer in a PVP focused set, geared out in a way to capitalize every single aspect of a PVP engagement, melt his face in 2 seconds and take his shit. PvE players enjoy the Dark Zone for the landmark clearing, air-drops, div-tech, and containment events. Skirmish isn't much better, but at least the abuse is consensual. Last Stand takes forever to find a match. This is a loot/shoot game that has a failed experiment of The Dark Zone. If you want PvP, go play siege, CoD, Battlefield, etc. It isn't a hard concept to grasp that unsolicited PVP combat is bad in most games. It is to this day where the PvE players go to farm and the PvP players go to gank. Through the years, the PvE side of the game has picked up and the DZ is slowly dwindling away. A focus that had PvE farmers facing off against PvP greifers. The Division launched with a lack of end-game content, thus the DZ was the focus. If you believe otherwise, you are part of the problem. The DZ breeds bottom feeders and greifers.
